“American Idol” Recap: No One Sent Home Due to “Idol” Production Schedule

Fox(LOS ANGELES) — In a surprise twist, no one was sent home on American Idol Thursday night because producers couldn’t let the show end a week early.
Host Ryan Seacrest provided this on-air explanation: “Since the save started back in season eight, we’ve built an extra week into our schedule for the judges’ save. For the first time, the judges didn’t use the save so we’ve got an extra week before the finale…”
That means all four remaining contestants — Candice Glover, Amber Holcomb, Kree Harrison and Angie Miller — will perform again next week.
Seacrest said this week’s 38 million votes won’t go to waste though. Instead, they’ll be combined with next week’s vote totals. “Whoever receives the lowest number of that total vote will be going home,” Seacrest said.
Candice and Amber were revealed to be in this week’s bottom two, so they’ll have to step it up next week to overcome their lackluster showing.
The remaining four girls got the night started by singing Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire.” Angie kicked it off playing the piano, but she later joined the rest of the contestants to work the stage.
Season 10 contestant Stefano Langone returned to the show to sing his new song, “Yes to Love.” Season 9 winner Lee DeWyze also came back to the Idol stage to sing his new single, “Silver Lining.”
Candice got a big surprise when one of her favorite artists, Drake, made a surprise appearance on the show. She sang his song “Find Your Love” Wednesday, and Drake told Candice he wishes she would have been there to record it with him in the first place.
Of note, Ryan Seacrest ran onto the set late after this week’s Ford commercial aired. He then made a joke that he was busy polishing Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron’s Emmy. He said he also polished Survivor host Jeff Probst’s Emmy too. Ryan tried to laugh it off, but it was awkwardly apparent he really wants that Outstanding Reality Host trophy on his mantel soon.
American Idol returns Wednesday at 8 p.m. Eastern on FOX.
