California Woman Found Guilty of Cutting Husband’s Penis Off
(NEW YORK) -- In a case that called to mind the 1993 saga of John and Lorena Bobbitt, a Southern California woman was found guilty Monday of torture and aggravated mayhem for cutting off her estranged husband's penis last year.
The prosecution argued that Catherine Kieu drugged her 60-year-old victim by putting sleeping pills in his tofu and then attacking him with a 10 inch knife while shouting "You deserve it."
Kieu also tossed the penis in a garbage disposal. Doctors were unsuccessful in surgically reattaching the organ.
The defendant's lawyers argued she was traumatized by a history of molestation in her native Vietnam and that her spouse had constantly demanded sex from her.
Kieu will be sentenced in June.
It was 20 years ago that John and Lorena Bobbitt made world headlines after she severed his penis in a jealous rage. However, jurors found Lorena Bobbitt not guilty by reason of insanity. Doctors were able to reattach John Bobbitt's penis. The couple have since divorced.
