Cavaliers Fire Byron Scott
Published at(NEW YORK) — The Cleveland Cavaliers fired head coach Byron Scott after three losing seasons, the team announced Thursday.
The Cavaliers had the third worst record in the NBA this season and finished 24-58 in 2013.
“I have tremendous respect for Byron professionally and a great deal of admiration for him personally,” Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant said. “At the same time, it is critical for where we are as a team to ensure that we capitalize on every opportunity for development and success and we have fallen short of that on the court. I believe we needed to make this change in order to get to a better position to achieve our goals.”
Cleveland picked up the option on Scott’s contract for next season during training camp, which was a little over $4 million.
Scott has a 416-521 career coaching record during his time with the Cavaliers, Nets, and Hornets.
