(CINCINNATI) — A teenage boy remains in critical condition after he shot himself inside a classroom Monday morning at his suburban Cincinnati Catholic high school.
No one else was hurt in the incident at La Salle High School although the all-male school was briefly under lock-down until authorities determined that no one else was in danger.
According to investigators in Green Township, the boy, described as an honors student, used a semi-automatic handgun to shoot himself during his first class with 22 others in the room.
His classmates scurried for cover as several called 911 to report the shooting.
Police don’t know what motivated the student to try and commit suicide or how he was able to smuggle the gun inside the high school, which will reopen on Tuesday. The victim, who is being treated at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, has not been identified at the request of his parents.
