Cunningham will now have new nickname too, “Mr. Irrelevant”.  Cunningham played tight end for South Carolina and received the call at the last minute from the Colts.

“I most definitely did hear it, and I’ll remember it,” Cunningham joked after hearing his name called on the television.

Cunningham is 264 pounds and 6-foot-4 and played for South Carolina.  “Mr. Irrelevant” caught just 49 passes for 544 yards and one touchdown in four seasons.

The Colts are happy with their selection.

“Before I put the tape on, in my mind I thought was I was going to see someone who could block,” Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said. “Not only can he block, but this guy really has some savvy as a receiver. He’ll make some catches in traffic and hold onto the football. And if you’re fearless and you want to get in the end zone, that’s not something you can’t teach.”

Cunningham will be honored at Irrelevant Week at Disneyland during the summer.
