The escapee, Felix Trujillo, 24, is still at large after apparently walking out of the facility Sunday night wearing a deputy’s uniform jacket.

Deputy Matthew Andrews was arrested on felony charges of assisting with an escape, said Lt. Matt Murray with the Denver Police Department.

Trujillo has an extensive criminal arrest record, including escape, felony menacing, domestic violence and assault, according to ABC affiliate KMGH-TV.

“This is a dangerous situation where we have a dangerous fugitive at large,” said Maj. Frank Gale, spokesman for the Denver Sheriff’s Department.

Gale said Trujillo did not escape with any radios or weapons.

“Cleary this person is a danger,” Murray said. “We are working with law enforcement in the metro area to locate and apprehend this person.”

Citing the ongoing investigation, officials would not elaborate on how Andrews allegedly helped Trujillo escape or the nature of their relationship. Andrews has been with the department for two years and is officially on paid leave during the investigation, Gale said.

It is the first escape from the downtown jail facility since it opened in 2010, Gale said.

“We are confident there are no security concerns with the facility at this time,” he added.
