Dirk Nowitzki Scores 25,000th Career Point
Published at(NEW ORLEANS) — The Dallas Mavericks may not be going to the playoffs this year, but their superstar achieved a major career milestone on Sunday.
Dirk Nowitzki became the 17th player in NBA history to reach 25,000 career points in a 107-89 win over the New Orleans Hornets, joining Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett as the only active players to reach that plateau.
The 34-year-old accomplished the feat on a midrange jumper in the second quarter.
“I was just happy to get it over with and see the whole bench get up and salute me,” Nowitzki said. “That was a special feeling. Yeah, it was a great milestone, and like I said, once I look back on my career, this is going to be special.”
Nowitzki finished the afternoon with 19 points to help the Mavericks improve their record to 40-40 this season with two games remaining.
