The right-hander suffered the injury after hitting San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin with a pitch Thursday night, resulting in bench-clearing brawl.

The club said in a statement that a metal plate was used to stabilized the bone. The procedure was performed by Dr. John Itamura and Dr. Neal ElAttrache at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old Grienke is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two starts this season. He has struck out 10 batters in 11 1-3 innings of work.

Left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano will take Grienke’s spot in the rotation. The 2009 American League Cy Young award winner is expected to sidelined for eight weeks.
