But, says the actress, in this case, life will not imitate fiction.

“As far as I know, I’m [still] in!” she tells ABC News. “I’m in the two episodes after this, so I’ll have a new [direction].”

Lynch, 52, who is now a spokeswoman for belVita Breakfast Biscuits, says that she welcomed the opportunity to tackle such a serious topic, but, “I don’t know that I was prepared for the amount of scrutiny and the amount of attention going to it.”

“I think [series creator] Ryan [Murphy] wrote a terrific story,” she adds, “And I thought, ‘I’m glad that he’s shedding light on this.’”

The actress, who is making her Broadway debut in Annie next month, is also speaking out in support of her co-star Cory Monteith, who entered rehab earlier this month for substance abuse.

“He knows the drill — he knows what he needs to do,” she says. “It’s almost like he has to renew his vows of sobriety to himself and that’s what’s so great about it: He went of his own volition to take care of it.”

Lynch, who says that she’s been sober for 21 years and has bonded with Monteith over that, adds that being upfront and honest about addiction is an important part of the process.

“It’s the only way to go,” she says. “You have to take chances of telling the truth and not hiding behind anything.”
