Kershaw Leads Dodgers over Giants, 4-0 On Opening Day
Published at(LOS ANGELES) — Clayton Kershaw can do it all.
The 25-year-old Kershaw hit his first career home run while pitching a four-hit shutout, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-0 opening day victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Kershaw (1-0) became the first pitcher to throw a shutout and hit a home run in an opener since Bob Lemon did it for Cleveland in 1953.
“Opening Day was everything I could hope for,” Kershaw said. “Hopefully we got 161 more of those coming up.”
Kershaw struck out seven and walked none in his sixth-career shutout. Giants starter Matt Cain gave up four hits in six scoreless innings.
George Kontos (0-1), took the loss for the defending World Series champs.
