Just 17 months after undergoing reconstructive elbow surgery, Lackey delivered a 2-2 pitch to Jose Reyes and clutched his arm in pain.

“The testing he went through in the training room after some time elapsed, the test strengths, the manual testing in here showed good strength, almost full strength,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said after the game.  “So there are some initial positive signs here, but we can’t rule anything out and that’s why the exam will take place.”

Lackey’s last pitched on Sept. 25, 2011 in New York and felt discomfort on the previous pitch.

“It felt like a pretty good cramp, almost like … all biceps, wasn’t elbow. Pretty frustrating. It was scary when it happened, for sure,” Lackey said.

Toronto’s runs came on homers by J.P. Arencibia’s two-run shot in the fourth and a Colby Rasmus three-run shot in the sixth.

J.A. Happ struck out six in 5.1 innings pitched for Toronto and got the win.

Boston will send Jon Lester (1-0) to the mound and will be opposed by R.A. Dickey (0-1) on Sunday.
