(SALT LAKE CITY, UT) – For the first time in the faith’s 183-year history, a woman led the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in prayer Saturday. Jean Stevens offered a benediction for a Saturday morning session of the church’s semiannual conference. Feminist groups praised the move as a step toward more gender equality. In addition, church president Thomas S. Monson announced the creation of two more temples, one in Cedar City, Utah, and the other in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
