Leno, Fallon Poke Fun at “Tonight Show” Drama with Parody

Paul Drinkwater/NBC(LOS ANGELES) -- The drama surrounding the future of The Tonight Show has not damaged the friendship between Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon.

NBC's late-night hosts collaborated on a sketch Monday night that bridged the conclusion of Leno's Tonight Show and the intro to Fallon's Late Night.  In the segment, Leno and Fallon made light of reports stating that NBC plans to replace Leno with Fallon as Tonight Show host next year.

The sketch began with Leno signing off The Tonight Show and walking backstage, where he was greeted by reporters peppering him with questions regarding his future on the program.  Once in his dressing room, he called Fallon, who was in his office, surrounded by several newspaper and magazine articles about Leno's status on The Tonight Show.

Leno expressed how sick he is of the speculation.  Fallon asked Leno if they were still friends, to which Leno replied in the affirmative.  The two then broke into song -- a parody of West Side Story's "Tonight" -- joking about the situation.

During their performance, Leno and Fallon addressed many of the rumors, including the report that NBC will move The Tonight Show from Los Angeles to New York to accommodate Fallon.

At one point, Leno weighed his options, singing that he has "Fox on the line" and that he could "take over for Dave," meaning CBS Late Show host David Letterman.

Leno has repeatedly taken jabs at NBC executives on The Tonight Show in recent weeks in light of the reports.
