The event in London, which already features some of the tightest security measures in the world, was even more guarded in case of a possible copycat bombing along the 26.2-mile run.

However, the possibility of another terrorist attack didn’t seem to faze the 35,000 runners, who wore black arm bands in tribute to the Boston Marathon victims, or the hundreds of thousands of spectators who turned out for the race.

In fact, marathon director Hugh Brasher sounded confident, saying, “A full security review has taken place and absolutely everyone was adamant that the show should go on.”

Before the starting whistle, the race announcer also called for a 30-second moment of silence to show solidarity with Boston.

Meanwhile, organizers also set up a charity called One Fund Boston, donating two British pounds for every runner crossing the finish line to the people most affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.  The final total was around $100,000.
