(CAMBRIDGE, Mass.) — Gunshots were reported Thursday night near a building on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge, according to the university.
An MIT police officer was shot and killed in the incident, according to ABC News affiliate WCVB-TV.
The incident occurred at 10:48 p.m. near the Ray and Maria Stata Center on the MIT campus, and the “situation is still very active,” the university warned on their website.
“Responding agencies continue to investigate the situation. Police are sweeping the campus at this time, please continue to stay indoors and remain inside until further notice,” the university said on its website.
An earlier alert on MIT’s website described the situation as “extremely dangerous.”
