Boston broke a scoreless tie in the seventh. After second baseman Dustin Pedroia singled and first baseman Mike Napoli doubled, Nava sent a pitch by Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen over the Green Monster in left.

Buchholz turned in his second consecutive gem of the season, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out eight.

The Red Sox have now won nine consecutive season home openers.
