(BALTMORE) — The Baltimore Orioles optioned starting right-handed pitcher Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday. The move comes one day after he allowed five earned runs on two hits and six walks over four innings in a 7-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In four starts this season, the 27-year-old Arrieta is 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA. He has allowed 16 walks, while striking out 20 in 19 innings of work.
The Orioles called up right-handed pitcher Alex Burnett from Norfolk to take Arrieta’s place on the roster. Baltimore acquired Burnett off of waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on April 12. In 67 games last season with the Minnesota Twins, the 25-year-old went 4-4 with a 3.52 ERA.
