The 22-year-old George finished the game with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists.

The game was never in doubt: The Pacers took the lead at the 6:26 mark of the first quarter and never gave it back.

“We pressured up,” George said. “We started to use our hands. A team like that, you can’t let them be comfortable. We’re doing a great job of just taking away their airspace.”

The Pacers had six players score in double digits.

Jeff Teague led the Hawks with 21 points. The Hawks actually shot 50 percent from the field, but only shot 7 for 14 from the free-throw line. By comparison, the Pacers converted 30 of their 34 attempts from the charity stripe.

Game 2 is set for Wednesday in Indianapolis. Tip-off expected at 7:30 pm Eastern time.
