Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots for his first shutout victory of the season.

Both Lundqvist and Evgeni Nabokov were lights-out in regulation in a game that seemed destined to end in a shootout.  Girardi was finally able to flip a shot past Nabakov off a rush for the win.

“That was a long skate, but it was well worth it,” Lundqvist said. “They played hard. It was an exciting game to play in. It was fun, a lot of fun. Like a playoff game for sure.”

The win kept the Rangers (21-16-4, 46 pts) eighth in the Eastern Conference standings.  The Islanders (21-16-5, 47 pts) remain one point ahead. The ninth-place Winnipeg Jets are two points behind the Rangers with seven games remaining.
