Jordan is currently the Los Angeles Lakers assistant and played for Rutgers from 1973-77.

Rutgers has been trying to fill the void after firing head coach Mike Rice for using gay slurs, throwing basketballs, and kicking and shoving players this season.

Jordan has coached the Philadelphia 76ers, Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards.

The 58-year-old has a 257-343 record as a head coach in the NBA.  He was the lead candidate to get the Rutgers job back in 2009, but pulled out to seek a new NBA coaching job.

Former Lakers head coach Mike Brown brought Jordan in as an assistant to help run offense in 2012.
