Sens. Manchin, Toomey Reach Deal on Gun Background Checks
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Senators Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa., have reached a deal to close the gun show loophole and extend background checks to almost all commercial sales, ABC News has learned.
The two senators, who have been working for days on a bipartisan compromise on background checks, are expected to make the announcement at 11 a.m. ET Wednesday.
A Senate aide tells ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that the gun show sales will be conditioned on the same background checks and paper record-keeping requirements that are currently applied to commercial retail sales.
There will be some exemptions for sales between family members and short-term hunter-to-hunter loans, the aide says.
