Starring Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn, the show focuses on an affair that President Fitzgerald Grant (played by Goldwyn) is having with Washington’s character, Olivia Pope.  Pope’s job is to make sure that the secrets of the nation’s political elite don’t make it to the public.

With their risky portrayals, Rhimes laughed and said, “I think they’re portrayed quite nicely. I think they’re all heroes in their dark and twisted ways on Scandal.  I wouldn’t want any of the people on Scandal necessarily in our government, but I also think there’s a huge difference between the world of Scandal and the world of Washington as we have it right now, and we’re lucky that that’s true.”

Rhimes admitted that she’s hearing a lot of politicians are fans of the show. “I think there’s a little bit of thank God it’s not really like that for them possibly. Hopefully we’re making D.C. a little sexy, which is kind of great and hopefully we’re bringing a little attention it in a different kind of way.”

Says Goldwyn: “I think it must be a lot of fun to work really hard at something all day long and watch something that’s a fantasy version of it. I think that’d be a pretty good release.”

Scandal airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
