Sofia Vergara Says Her Eggs Are ‘In the Refrigerators’

ABC/Fred Lee(NEW YORK) — Sofia Vergara announced Wednesday on ABC’s Good Morning America that she has frozen her eggs for the possibility of a new baby with fiancé, Nicholas Loeb.
“I wanted to make sure I already froze my eggs. I wanted to take advantage of science,” Vergara told ABC News. “I took them out already. They’re in the refrigerators. Hopefully, they’ll be fresh by the time I use them.”
Vergara, 40, says she wanted to plan ahead because at her age, “nothing happens that naturally anymore,” she said.
Vergara has a son, Manolo González, 21, from a previous marriage, but Loeb has no children so Vergara didn’t want to rule out the possibility of giving him a child of his own.
“My boyfriend Nicky is three years younger than me and he’s never had a son,” Vergara said. “I have my son, Manolo. So it’s not an emergency for me to have another kid, but for Nicky, he’s never had a baby.”
The actress is staying busy with a thyroid campaign that is near and dear to her heart called “Follow the Script.” As a thyroid cancer survivor, Vergara is the spokeswoman for AbbVie, makers of Synthroid, a drug for treatment of hypothyroidism.
“It’s very simple,” Vergara said. “Many women go for a long time without knowing they have a problem with their thyroid. It changes your mood, your fertility, so many things.”
Vergara is helping raise awareness about the importance of diagnosing and treating hypothyroidism early on.
“I had cancer 10 years ago and because they took my thyroid out, I’ve never had a problem because I’ve taken control of it,” Vergara said. “I’ve always been serious with it. I take my medication; check my blood every two or three months. Just be proactive about it. Be smart and do something.”
When asked about her and Loeb’s upcoming marriage plans, the newly blonde Vergara says they’re thinking about setting a date for next summer.
