The Tigers (3-2) led 5-1 before the Yankees scored three in the sixth inning to pull to within a run.  They tacked on two more to make it 7-4.

“It’s a long season, we just have to keep this going,” Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera said. “We have to stay focused and do our jobs so we can win as many games as we can.”

Prince Fielder and Andy Dirks each drove in two runs to help run the Yankees’ record to 1-4 this season.

Detroit will go for the sweep Sunday in a matchup of aces,  Justin Verlander faces C.C. Sabathia.
