iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Storm patterns across the South and Midwest could result in tornadoes, blizzards, and flooding starting Wednesday.

The Mississippi River, which was so low at points that barge traffic had to be stopped, could overrun its banks in parts of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri.  Waters could reach 10 feet past flood levels by next week.

The National Weather Service predicts 3-4 inches of rain between Chicago and Kansas City, Mo.

Storms in the Rockies could produce tornadoes in northern Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

Winter storm warnings are also underway from New Mexico to Wisconsin, with possible blizzards that could dump a foot of snow some areas.
