The 20-year-old was arrested after Louisiana police say he stole a car and led them on a high-speed chase Monday night, one day after his tryout for the Fox singing competition.

According to New Orleans’ The Times-Picayune, police say Wilson, a resident of Florida, ran out of money by Monday and was stuck in Slidell, La., about 30 miles outside of the Big Easy.  Police say he stole an unattended car at a gas station and drove over 75 miles-per-hour as officers pursued him.

After it struck a police car, an officer eventually managed to bring the stolen vehicle to a halt.

Wilson was booked on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $500, criminal damage, resisting an officer, and aggravated flight from an officer.

Prior to his arrest, Wilson had been asked to audition again for The X Factor in New York next week.

Simon Cowell’s reality show will return for its third season this fall.  So far, only Cowell and Demi Lovato have been confirmed for the judges’ panel.  The show’s producers presided over the recent New Orleans auditions.
