The results were based on a combination of votes from last week and this week. That’s because no one was sent home last week. According to host Ryan Seacrest, over 81 million votes determined Thursday’s results.

Amber bid farewell to the competition with a performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Believe in You and Me.”
Next week, we’ll get to see Angie, Candice and Kree make hometown visits.

For the record, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey did not extend their war of words from Wednesday night. Then again, Nicki said plenty on Twitter earlier on Thursday, calling Mariah “insecure” and “bitter.”

Also, it appears that Randy Jackson and this week’s mentor, Harry Connick, Jr., are on good terms after failing to see eye-to-eye over Kree’s performance of “Stormy Weather” on Wednesday night. Harry joked that he and Randy went out together after the performance show, then fell asleep on a couch.

Harry was one of three musical guests on Thursday’s show. He performed the title track from his upcoming album, Every Man Should Know.

Season-seven Idol champ David Cook returned to perform his new single, “Laying Me Low.” And will.i.am was on hand to perform his contribution to The Great Gatsby soundtrack, the 1920s-sounding tune “Bang Bang.”

In another bit of promotion for The Great Gatsby, which opens next week, Idol’s top four kicked off the broadcast with a rendition of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love.” The film’s soundtrack includes a cover of the song by Emeli Sande.

American Idol returns to Fox next Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
