(SAN DIEGO) — San Diego Chargers linebacker Melvin Ingram suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the team’s Organized Team Activity on Tuesday, the team announced.
Ingram, 24, was the Chargers first round draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He had 41 tackles, one forced fumble and one sack in his rookie season.
With the loss of Ingram, free agent defensive end Dwight Freeney will be visiting with the Chargers, a league source told ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
The Chargers open up at home against the Houston Texans on Sept. 9.
