Ricketts says he needs the new advertising revenue to renovate the 99-year-old ballpark.

Rooftop owners object to Ricketts’ plan to install the screens because it would block the view of the field. They have a revenue-sharing contract with the team and have threatened to sue if their views are blocked.

The Cubs formally filed their plan with the city on Wednesday, in which they call for more night games, a new clubhouse, upgrades of restrooms and concession stands, and the addition of entertainment experiences for the fans. The plan will be presented at public hearings and must be approved by the city planners and the City Council.
