During eight weeks of competition, Lowe was praised by the judges for his enthusiasm and often criticized for his technique.  Lowe and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd found themselves at the bottom of the leader board after they delivered a tango on Monday’s performance show that judge Len Goodman said was “a little bit ugly,” and danced a jazz routine that judge Bruno Tonioli said was out of synch with the music.

After learning he was eliminated, Lowe told the audience, “I have enjoyed every second of it. I am truly blessed to have taken part in all this.”  Lowe called the experience “an incredible opportunity.”

Murgatroyd described Lowe as a humble and wonderful guy, and said he made the season fun for her.

Each week, the couple with the lowest overall combination of judges’ scores and viewers’ votes is eliminated.

Tuesday’s results show also featured live musical performances by Jason DeRulo and Emeli Sandé.

NFL star Jacoby Jones, Disney star Zendaya, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, country music singer Kellie Pickler and soap opera star Ingo Rademacher will return next Monday to compete in the Dancing with the Stars Season 16 semifinals.  They will perform dance styles that viewers selected for them via Twitter: Raisman will do afro jazz; Pickler, flamenco; Jones, the lindy hop; Zendaya, hip hop; and Rademacher, the Charleston.

Dancing with the Stars returns next Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern on ABC.
