Beckham signed a one-year extension with Paris Saint-German, but the 38-year-old will step away and continue his ambassador roles with Sky Sports, Adidas, UNICEF and promoting the sport in China.

“I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level,” Beckham released in a statement on Thursday. “I want to thank all my teammates, the great managers that I had the pleasure of learning from. I also want to thank the fans who have all supported me and given me the strength to succeed.”

Beckham made his debut in 1992 with Manchester United and went on to play with Real Madrid, AC Milan and the Los Angeles Galaxy during his career.

The mid-fielder led Paris Saint-German to their first French titles in 19 years. He’ll retire with 19 trophies, 10 of them League titles and is the only English player to win Championship titles in four different countries.
