“It involves a death,” he recently revealed to ABC News Radio.

O’Neill said the topic “doesn’t seem like it’s funny, but it’s a very funny show and it’s a very touching show.”

The episode, titled “Goodnight, Gracie,” follows the Modern Family characters as they travel to Florida to be with Ty Burrell’s Phil after his mom passes away.  Sofía Vergara’s Gloria finds herself having to contest an outstanding arrest warrant in Florida while Eric Stonestreet’s Cameron seems to fit right in with an elderly women’s group at a retirement community.

The Modern Family season finale airs tonight at 9:00 Eastern time.
