Warner Bros. announced on Wednesday that the film will now be released Thursday, May 23, one day earlier than originally scheduled.

According to Deadline, distributor Dan Fellman said “early exhibitor screening reactions have been sensational,” which led to the bump in the premiere date.

Industry insiders also point out that Warner Bros. wants to get a Memorial Day weekend jump on Universal’s Fast and Furious 6, which is set to debut on Friday, May 24.

In the Hangover sequel, Zach Galifianakis’ character, Alan, has lost his father, and he’s stopped taking his medication.  The other guys in the Wolfpack — Bradley Cooper’s Phil, Ed Helms’ Stu, and Justin Bartha’s Doug — try to convince him to go to rehab.

Eventually, they’re chased down by John Goodman’s character, a tough guy who tells them he’s owed $21 million by the gangster Mr. Chow, played by Ken Jeong.  The typical mayhem fans have come to expect from The Hangover series follows.

The Hangover Part III also features Melissa McCarthy.
