The Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher cut his right index finger doing dishes last week, and will miss his scheduled start Monday.

Diamondbacks skipper Kirk Gibson says Kennedy said the incident happened a few days ago. Kennedy threw a bullpen session on Saturday with a band-aid on the finger. The team thought about other options to allow Kennedy to make his start, but decided not to interfere with the healing process.

Gibson says the team hopes Kennedy doesn’t need a stint on the disabled list.

The 28-year-old Kennedy has made 10 start this season. He has posted a 2-3 record with a 4.70 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 61.1 inning pitched.

Arizona has called up Tyler Skaggs from Triple-A Reno to make Kennedy’s Monday start.
