Is Going to College Worth the Cost?

JupiterImages/Comstock Images(NEW YORK) — Most American high school students say it’s their goal to make it through college and get a degree. But is it worth it?
A new study from the Brookings Institution says it depends on the quality of the school and a student’s major.
Overall, a bachelor’s degree adds — on average — an extra $570,000 of lifetime income, the study finds, with engineering and computer majors doing the best.
But with the high cost of college tuition, Brookings says one out of every five schools it studied offered a negative return on investment.
