New Highs on Wall Street

Record closes for several blue-chip companies helped to boost Wednesday’s average. Disney, Johnson & Jonson and Home Depot were among the Dow components hitting all-time highs. As for the year-to-date, the Dow is now up 16.57 percent.
 
The S&P 500 also closed trading at a new all-time high at 1,658.78, up 8.44 points. It’s the eighth time in 10 days the S&P has hit a new high. On Wednesday, roughly 35 percent of the S&P 500 stocks traded at 52-week highs. The S&P 500 is up 16.23 percent for the year-to-date. The S&P has surged 144 percent from the March 2009 bottom, according to Bloomberg.
 
The Nasdaq Composite finished Wednesday at its highest level in more than 12 years, closing up for the last 13 days. The index added 9.01 points to close at 3,471.62. The Nasdaq is up 14.87 percent for the year-to-date.
 
Movie streaming company Netflix is now up 163 percent so far this year. The return of television series Arrested Development helped the company’s stock to surge Wednesday. The former Fox comedy is slated to make its debut on Netflix next week. Netflix shares have been up for six straight days.
 
Google Wednesday traded over $900 a share for the first time ever, hitting a new all-time high.
