(BOSTON) — NFL team owners voted on Tuesday to award the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl L, while Houston was selected to host Super Bowl LI.
The San Francisco Bay Area bid was chosen over a bid from South Florida, which was hampered when the state legislature did not support a financial plan to renovate Sun Life Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins. Super Bowl L will take place at Levi’s Stadium, the new home of the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, California, which is set to open at the beginning of the 2014 season.
Super Bowl LI will take place at Reliant Stadium, home of the Houston Texans. It will be the second time the stadium has hosted the big game, with the first coming back in 2004.
MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey is scheduled to host the next Super Bowl, in 2014.
