Orb Wins Kentucky Derby

Orb won the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Rosario, the jockey for Orb, raced the horse into a lead on the final straightaway . Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey grabbed his first Derby Win.

“I was so far behind and I just let him be calm and let him be relaxed and he was available to do it all,” Rosario said.

The track was sloppy and muddy after as much as a quarter-inch of rain fell at Churchill Downs prior to the start of the race.

Golden Soul finished second, while Revolutionary finished third.

Rosie Napravnik made history by posting the highest finish by a female jockey in the race’s history, taking Mylute to a fifth place finish.

Orb was a co-favorite to start the race at 6-1 odds.

Goldencents, the horse of the University of Louisville’s basketball coach Rick Pitino, finished 17th.
