Report: Matthew McConaughey Almost Went Blind After Weight Loss

Ray Tamarra/FilmMagic(LOS ANGELES) — Matthew McConaughey reportedly risked severe physical complications, including nearly going blind, while losing weight for a movie role.
McConaughey was preparing to play a man diagnosed with HIV in the 1980s, at the height of the AIDS epidemic, in the upcoming movie The Dallas Buyer’s Club.
“Matthew lost nearly 50 pounds and toward the end he started to lose his eyesight,” a source tells In Touch Weekly.
The source says the actor consulted with doctors “who confirmed that when you starve yourself you begin to lose your vision.” The insider says the doctors monitored McConaughey and “things are back to normal now.”
The Dallas Buyer’s Club co-stars Hilary Swank, Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto. The film is in post-production and does not yet have a release date.
