(BOSTON) — New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is set to undergo back surgery later next month, according to ESPN.
Spine specialist Dr. Robert Watkins is expected to conduct the operation on the two-time Pro Bowler. It will be his fifth career surgery. No timetable has been given on when Gronkowski will be back on the gridiron.
In 43 regular season games with the Patriots, Gronkowski has 187 receptions for 2,663 yards and 38 touchdowns. New England is expected to turn to backup tight end Jake Ballard, during Gronkowski’s absence.
