(LOS ANGELES) — Dunder Mifflin’s old boss may make an appearance in the series finale of The Office, after all.
Executive producer Greg Daniels has stated on multiple occasions that Steve Carell, who portrayed the bumbling manager of the Dunder Mifflin paper company’s Scranton, Pa., branch for seven seasons, will not be back for the final episode of the NBC comedy.
However, TVLine.com is reporting that Carell will make a cameo in the episode. The report doesn’t specify the circumstances surrounding the return of his character, Michael Scott.
Carell’s rep claims to TVLine that the actor will not be featured in the finale.
When viewers last saw Scott on the show, he was leaving Pennsylvania to begin his new life with his fiancée, played by Amy Ryan, in Colorado.
The Office ends its nine-season run on May 16.
