(LOS ANGELES) — Rob Lowe portrayed Liberace’s plastic surgeon this past weekend in HBO’s Behind the Candelabra and now he’s been tapped to play John F. Kennedy in the National Geographic Channel’s upcoming film Killing Kennedy, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The film is a follow-up to the channel’s popular movie Killing Lincoln, which was based on a book by Fox News Channel host Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. Killing Kennedy is also based on a book by O’Reilly and Dugard.
The film begins in 1959 with Kennedy announcing his candidacy for the White House and ends in 1963 with his assassination.
Once Upon a Time star Ginnifer Goodwin is cast as Jacqueline Kennedy. Michelle Trachtenberg will portray Marina Oswald, the wife of JFK’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.
Production is scheduled to begin in June in Richmond, Va.
No air date has been announced, but it’s expected to air sometime around the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s assassination on November 22.
The National Geographic Channel is also developing a film based on O’Reilly and Dugard’s upcoming book, Killing Jesus.
