Corey Conacher scored twice, and Craig Anderson stopped 33 shots leading the No. 7 seed Ottawa Senators to a 6-1 Game 5 victory over the No. 2 seed Montreal Canadians Thursday night.
The loss means the Canadians lose the best-of-seven playoff series 4-1.
Ottawa got the scoring started fast when center Zach Smith scored 2:17 into the opening period. Conacher scored about 10 minutes later to make it 2-0, but Canadians defenseman P.K. Subban scored with 15 seconds left in the first, making it a one goal game.
After that, it was all Ottawa, scoring four special teams goals en route to the victory.
It is the first time since 2007 that Ottawa has won a playoff series.
