(NEW YORK) — Mike Malone will become the next coach of the Sacramento Kings, a source told ESPNLosAngeles.com.
Malone served as the assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors this past season and was an assistant to Monty Williams in New Orleans before his tenure with the Warriors.
“I know he really wants to do it, and I know he’ll be a really good head coach. The tough part is knowing I gotta coach against him because I know he really knows his stuff,” Williams told ESPNLosAngeles.com last week.
“Mike was always a good sounding board, he wasn’t afraid to stand up for what he believed in,” Williams continued.
The deal is for four years worth more than $9 million, according to the source.
The Kings finished 28-54 under Keith Smart.
