“I’m hurting the team,” Sabathia said. “I’m not helping the team out, I just need to get better.”

“It’s just everything,” he continued. “Not being able to make pitches with two strikes, fastball command, location. I just need to work and make certain I can get better and try to help the team.”

Since joining the Yankees in 2009, Sabathia has been one of the better pitchers in the American League. Despite his track record, Sabathia is having his worse season since he put on the Yankee pinstripes. Against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, Sabathia gave up seven earned runs over seven innings, raising his ERA to 3.96.

According to Sabathia, his left elbow, which he had offseason surgery on, “feels great,” and it has nothing to do with his poor season so far.
