(NEW YORK) — The Cleveland Indians placed shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, due to a strained right quadriceps.
Cabrera has been dealing with the injury since the end of April and underwent an MRI in Cleveland Tuesday that confirmed the injury.
Indians skipper Terry Francona said he didn’t know how long it would take for Cabrera to come back but also added that the Indians’ medical staff said similar injuries have taken players 3-4 weeks to recover.
Cabrera is hitting .254 with five home runs and 25 RBIs this season. With Cabrera out Francona says Mike Aviles will get the majority of playing time at shortstop.
The Indians also called up shortstop Juan Diaz from Triple-A Columbus to take Cabrera’s roster spot.
