Toews missed the entire third period of Game 5 after suffering an upper-body injury following a hit from Bruins’ defenseman Johnny Boychuk.

“Johnny is doing much better (Sunday,)” Quenneville said. “He’s progressing. We’re optimistic he’ll play (Monday) night.”

Having Toews on the ice would be huge for the Hawks. Before leaving Game 5, Toews recorded two assists giving him 12 points this postseason.

Still there Blackhawks are prepared to play even if Toews is not.

“You look at the situation we’re in. We’re this close to reaching our goal,” Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp said. “Obviously we want Johnny to play, but if he’s not we have to find a way to get it done either way.”

The Hawks have a three to two series lead over the Bruins, and will attempt to win the Cup Monday night in Boston. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
