Bloody Carnage Continues in Iraq

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(BAGHDAD) — Another round of violence in Iraq Tuesday claimed the lives of three dozen people as national security forces are straining to prevent attacks seemingly committed by al Qaeda-linked groups.
As has been the case since late April when a revival of sectarian warfare began in earnest, no one claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s series of suicide bombings both north and south of Baghdad.
In the deadliest assault, 16 civilians were killed and more than 50 injured when two militants blew themselves up in an attack directed at Shiite Turkmen protesting deteriorating security in Salahuddin province.
The dead included the province’s deputy governor and the Turkmen Front party’s vice president.
Meanwhile, in the northern province of Mosul, 10 people died and 20 others were wounded when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives inside a cafe.
South of the capital, a bus carrying pilgrims to a Shiite celebration in Karbala was targeted by a bomb, leaving six dead and 13 injured.
