Creators of “Mad Men,” “House of Cards” Talk Emmy Prospects

Mathew Imaging/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — The sixth season of Mad Men ended last weekend. We’ll have to wait and see how much love it gets from Emmy voters, who must submit their ballots by Friday.
Should Mad Men be nominated for and win best drama this year, it would set a record for the most victories in the category, with five. But series creator Matthew Weiner is hoping the show will pick up its first-ever acting Emmy.
Weiner says, “I don’t know if this kind of acting isn’t in style or something, and they’ll never say it, but they are in my opinion doing the best work on TV, and that’s all I really am focused on, is them getting recognized.”
Weiner is appreciative of the feedback he’s received on the most recent season of Mad Men. He says, “To have done 78 episodes and have people tell us that they think it’s the best season, that’s better than an award, I’ve got to say.”
The Netflix drama House of Cards could also be a contender for best drama. Creator Beau Willimon says the buzz surrounding his show has been “fun and certainly humbling,” but he’s more concerned with making a second season “that’s hopefully as good or even better than season one.”
Willimon says he has a “well-mapped-out course” for the second season, which is currently filming, but the “story continues to evolve, and there are things that I’m sure will change up until the last moment.”
