Hollywood Legend Esther Williams Dies

B. Harlan Boll/BHBPR(LOS ANGELES) — Actress and swimming star Esther Williams has died. She was 91.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Williams pioneered a new kind of filmmaking known as “aqua musicals.”
In an interview some years back, Williams told ABC News Radio, “I think if you live long enough, people begin to wonder what it was that put you in the top ten for so many years — top ten box office — and very possibility it might be that you’re unique.”
Williams’ movies inspired an Olympic sport. “Synchronized swimming was born because of my pictures,” Williams said.
Dubbed a “million dollar mermaid,” her career spanned almost 20 years and 26 films.
Williams’ family said she died “peacefully in her sleep” in Beverly Hills.
